About

Montagneur is a knowledge base and a set of tools for mountain endurance sports — trail running, fastpacking, mountaineering and self-supported bikepacking.

Why it exists

Everything here started as private notes: what worked, what did not, what took years to understand and five minutes to explain. Mountain endurance advice tends to arrive either as folklore or as laboratory science written for full-time athletes. What was missing was the middle — methodical, sourced, and honest about its own limits, for people who train around a job and a life.

So the notes were cleaned up and published. Nothing here claims to be an absolute truth. It is one coherent way of doing things, laid out clearly enough that you can disagree with it on purpose.

How it is written

The knowledge base is organised into progressive chapters, ideally read in order. It is written in French and published in English. Where a claim rests on physiology rather than habit, it is stated as such; where it rests on personal experience, it says so too.

Pages are revised as understanding improves. If something here is wrong, say so — corrections are the whole point.

The tools

The methodology is also code. The Workout Tracker builds a season from your goal races, measures load in mountain units — vertical gain, effort-kilometres, climbing rate — and adjusts the plan week by week from heart-rate variability, resting heart rate and sleep. It reads sessions from the watch you already own.

For a season built and followed together rather than generated alone, see Coaching.

Independence

Montagneur sells no gear and takes no affiliate commission. There is no advertising, and no sponsor decides what is written here. The only thing being offered is the tracker and, in time, coaching.
